find hair salons
Where can I find a good Dominican Hair salon in the northern section of the Bronx or in Yonkers, NY?

I would like to find a “higher class” salon – not like those cheap ones that you find on every corner in upper manhattan or the Bronx. I’m looking for a place that uses good quality products for my damaged hair. It can also be in manhattan or southern Westchester county. thank you
ok, maybe “high class” wasn’t the right phrase, lol. i just want a somewhat clean place with people who know what they’re doing.

On 241 street (Bronx) next to post office there is a nice hair salon. Also there is one who knows what they are doing on white plains road after 242 street before mount veron (bronx) that does a good job. However their English is poor….

Sorry hun, but I don’t think there is such thing as a higher class of salon in that northern area of NYC. But you don’t need the higher class just need to find out people who seem to know what they are doing. You should walk in to some tell them your hair is damage and ask them to show you what products they use for damage hair, and if it doesn’t look like they know what they are doing / talking about go to next place.

Also last thing if you find out what are the products those good salons use in your hair you can just buy it and bring it to the hair dresser.

- Oh, those places I mention are pretty clean and know what they are doing.
You wont wait hours and they use got a lot of products in their store.

Diane Simon is fascinated by people's relationship with their hair because it is both very personal one and very public. She recognizes that so much of who we are is reflected in our relationship with our hair. Diane is the curly-haired daughter of straight haired parents and has suffered much for her "bad hair". In researching and writing Hair: Public, Political, Extremely Personal she has used her suffering as a point of entry, a common ground to share with those who think of themselves as excluded from Western beauty norms because of their hair. In Hair: Public, Political, Extremely Personal, social and cultural issues form the backdrop for an exploration of the choices people make to transform themselves through their hair. Hair is a cultural investigation with a strong narrative momentum and a commitment to individual personalities. Join Diane on her visits to Harlem braiding salons and Hassidic wig shops, and in her quest to try every type of hair removal. Spend an afternoon with Sy Sperling at the Hair Club for Men headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida, and find out the truth about some celebrity scalps. Hair: Public, Political, Extremely Personal is candid, humorous, serious, and surprisingly revealing.Cut It, Curl It, Weave It, Bleach It, Condition It, Implant It, Blowdry It, Spray It, Tint It, Comb It, Rat It, Bob It, Perm It, Braid It, Coif It, Gel It, Wig It, Fake It, Knot It, Pull It, Dye It, Highlight It, Wave It, Shampoo It, Straighten It, Pluck It, Color It, Wax It, Clip It, Shave It, Thread It, Mousse It, Depilitorize It, Tweeze It, Hide It, Laser It, Tease It, Trim It, Chop It, Wash It, Dry It, Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It And Brush It

From the ancient Greek symposia to Gertrude Stein's famous Paris gatherings, salons have always been the incubators of provocative-at times even dangerous-ideas: the frontiers of cultural change. People who might elsewhere have been socially ostracized were included in salons, welcomed for their wit, intelligence, charm, and insight. And passionate conversation often led to passionate action. In 1991 Utne Reader launched a salon renaissance all over North America when it featured a cover story on salons. The response to the article was staggering, leading Utne to organize a National Salon Association that quickly drew over 20,000 members. Conceived and written by the folks at Utne, Salons is the quintessential authority on the subject, demonstrating that joining or starting your own salon is just a living room away.Salons offers a fascinating history of the salon and supplies all the tools readers need to join or start a group of their own. Variations on the salon theme are explored, from studious book clubs and book circles to creativity salons, and finally online saloning. A closing chapter looks at salons as bedrocks for activism and institutions for keeping social consciousness alive for the long-haul.
